The Perception About Dermoid Cyst

The main causes of poor health infirmities are disorders, improper diet, injury, mental stress, lack of hygiene, an unhealthy lifestyle and like factors. Over the decades, our mode of living has enhanced and we often attend to overlook the significance of healthy dwelling in one way or the other.

A dermoid cyst on ovary is also sometimes referred to as a cystic teratoma which is a fairly simple harmless swelling to emerge in the ovaries of women. Approximately a third of all cysts investigated turn out to be this type of favorable cystic tumor. This special cystic ovarian growth is usually observed in women who have not yet attained menopause and the uncertainties of the tumor converting malignant are very low. However, the risk of the cyst becoming malignant is distinguished if a woman acquires one over the age of forty.

Causes of ovarian cyst

The ruptured ovarian cyst is a type of ovarian cyst complexity that is quite common among menstruating women. It happens that some of the ovarian cysts occur without any symptoms and get cured naturally. The dermoid ovarian cyst is differentiated from other cysts in the fact that it includes a lot of cell types. This occurs because this cyst is formed from cells that can become any other cell in the body meaning that it can include anything from hair to muscle within the mass. An extreme and rare documented case revealed fully formed teeth inside one of these tumors. This cyst has a way of developing without notice of any symptoms unless it is found during a routine pelvic exam. However, once the cyst develops over time, symptoms start to become more prominent including a great deal of pain.

The pain can be the result of the cyst becoming twisted at a certain point. Insufferable pain can occur if the cyst ruptures and develops peritonitis. Peritonitis is unbearable irritation of the abdomen and pelvic cavity. This would more than likely mean that the cyst has been twisted and surgery should be performed immediately. The least invasive surgery possible is performed to save as much of the ovary as possible. The size and location of the tumor may allow for laparoscopic surgery with small incisions. For the cases that will not allow laparoscopic surgery, there will be open surgery to remove the cyst. This would require a lot more downtime and recovery. However, the surgeon would still attempt to leave as much of the ovary as possible. The possibility of harmful side effects regarding either surgery is very low and recovery time for both types of removal is generally a month.

Just remember to follow the discharge orders provided by the doctor. Generally, the removal of a dermoid ovarian cyst will not lead to infertility. There is still the possibility for conception without any other negative health complications to interfere with becoming pregnant. An entire ovary might have to be removed during surgery, but keep in mind that a second ovary is fortunately still available to possibly become a mother when ready.
